What is the Difference Between Gold-Plated Stainless Steel Jewellery, Gold-Plated Jewellery, and Gold Jewellery?
Simply put, the difference between these types of jewellery lies in the materials used.
- Gold jewellery is made of... gold. They vary in price depending on the number of carats but are all very durable. Gold doesn’t discolour and is water-resistant. It’s a precious material whose price varies with its purity.
- Gold-plated jewellery is very minimally resistant. The amount of gold used to give them their shine is so small that they can’t be classified as gold-plated. These jewellery pieces are not resistant to water or sweat and will discolour very quickly.
- 18-carat gold-plated stainless steel jewellery, like ours, is plated with 18-carat gold. They undergo a process where they are dipped in gold (it’s obviously more complex than that, but we’ll spare you the details). This process allows the gold to bond to the stainless steel and ensures it never discolours.
