When buying golden jewellery, especially online, it’s often difficult to gauge the quality. That’s why we offer you a comprehensive guide on our favourite material: stainless steel. Spoiler alert: you’re going to love it as much as we do!

What is Stainless Steel?

Let’s start at the beginning. Stainless steel, commonly known as inox or inox steel, is an alloy primarily made of iron and carbon. That’s the basics of high school physics and chemistry.

Stainless steel is everywhere, even in unexpected places: kitchen utensils, automotive and shipbuilding industries, food processing, and medicine. This material is favoured by many fields and surrounds you without you even realising it.

All these industries use stainless steel mainly for its great durability and, unsurprisingly, its rust-resistant nature. Additionally, stainless steel is recyclable, making it an eco-friendly choice. At Palas, we’ve used it from the start for these very reasons.

Are Palas Jewellery Pieces Made from Stainless Steel?

Absolutely! The vast majority of our jewellery is made from 18-carat gold-plated stainless steel, which is why they shine so brightly! At the beginning of Palas, we started with stainless steel necklaces, our famous Santa Maria medals, and quickly expanded to new creations like stainless steel bracelets.

We love this material for its durability, among other things. Did you know that stainless steel jewellery is hypoallergenic? Now you do! As mentioned earlier (are you following?), stainless steel is used in medicine, particularly for surgical procedures. So, you have nothing to worry about when buying stainless steel earrings or other Palas jewellery.

Is Stainless Steel Jewellery of Good Quality?

Stainless steel jewellery is: durable, long-lasting, hypoallergenic, and requires minimal maintenance. Everything we love! Indeed, stainless steel jewellery is perfect as it can be worn in any circumstance without fear of damage.

Also known as stainless steel jewellery, these pieces are water-resistant, even in saltwater, and can be worn all year round. The quality of stainless steel jewellery is undeniable, and many brands, like Palas, recognise this.

That’s why we offer women’s jewellery that withstands the test of time, jewellery that you don’t have to remove for every little thing, and that you can cherish for a long time. That’s the promise of Palas creations.

Do Stainless Steel Jewellery Pieces Rust?

No, stainless steel jewellery does not rust or discolour or tarnish. Gone are the days of rings leaving unsightly marks on your fingers after forgetting to take them off while washing your hands. Stainless steel rings and other stainless steel jewellery do not have this problem.

The gold colour of Palas jewellery also doesn’t fade. Our stainless steel jewellery is plated with 18-carat gold, giving them their brilliant shine. Believe us, we’ve tested the durability of stainless steel in many situations, especially our favourite one: the beach.

We can guarantee (cross our hearts) that stainless steel jewellery is resistant to seawater. Our stainless steel necklaces are made to be worn with swimwear, so don’t hesitate to wear them during your next holiday.

What is the Difference Between Gold-Plated Stainless Steel Jewellery, Gold-Plated Jewellery, and Gold Jewellery?

Simply put, the difference between these types of jewellery lies in the materials used.

  • Gold jewellery is made of... gold. They vary in price depending on the number of carats but are all very durable. Gold doesn’t discolour and is water-resistant. It’s a precious material whose price varies with its purity.
  • Gold-plated jewellery is very minimally resistant. The amount of gold used to give them their shine is so small that they can’t be classified as gold-plated. These jewellery pieces are not resistant to water or sweat and will discolour very quickly.
  • 18-carat gold-plated stainless steel jewellery, like ours, is plated with 18-carat gold. They undergo a process where they are dipped in gold (it’s obviously more complex than that, but we’ll spare you the details). This process allows the gold to bond to the stainless steel and ensures it never discolours.

In summary, gold-plated stainless steel jewellery offers a high-quality alternative to gold jewellery, whose prices are constantly rising!
